SSC CHSL 2026 Eligibility
- Class 12 pass (or equivalent) from a recognised board, by 7 October 2026. Candidates still appearing in Class 12 can apply if they pass by then.
- For Data Entry Operator posts in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, the Staff Selection Commission and the Ministry of Culture: Class 12 in the Science stream with Mathematics.
- Age 18 to 27 years on 1 August 2026, with extra years for reserved categories (SC/ST 5, OBC 3, PwBD 10).
- Citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin covered by the notice, with an eligibility certificate where required.
SSC CHSL 2026 Selection Process
- Tier-I: computer-based test with 100 objective questions for 200 marks in 60 minutes; 0.50 marks deducted per wrong answer.
- Tier-II, Session I: Section I (maths, reasoning) and Section II (English, general awareness), one hour each, then Section III computer knowledge test for 15 minutes; 1 mark deducted per wrong answer. Every section must be qualified.
- Tier-II, Session II: Section IV skill test for DEO posts (15 minutes) or typing test for LDC/JSA (10 minutes).
- Final merit on normalised scores, then allotment of posts by merit and your post preferences.

How to Apply for SSC CHSL 2026
- Create your One-Time Registration (OTR) on ssc.gov.in or the mySSC app. An OTR made on the old ssc.nic.in site does not work on the new site.
- Choose Aadhaar authentication while completing the OTR. The notice recommends it, and such applications are not rejected over photo or signature issues.
- Open the CHSL 2026 application and fill in your details. Your photo is taken live by the camera during the form, so you don't need a ready photograph.
- Select your examination centres and your order of post preferences.
- Pay the ₹100 fee online by 8 October 2026, 11 pm, unless your category is exempt.
- Submit the form by 7 October 2026, 11 pm, and keep a copy. Mistakes can be corrected from 14 to 16 October 2026 by paying the correction charge.

Who can apply for SSC CHSL 2026
Candidates who have passed Class 12 or an equivalent exam from a recognised board by 7 October 2026 can apply; those still appearing can apply too, as long as they pass by that date. For Data Entry Operator posts in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, the Staff Selection Commission and the Ministry of Culture, Class 12 must have been passed in the Science stream with Mathematics.
Age limit and relaxation
The age limit is 18 to 27 years, counted on 1 August 2026. Reserved categories get extra years on the upper limit: 5 for SC/ST, 3 for OBC and 10 for PwBD (13 for PwBD-OBC and 15 for PwBD-SC/ST). Ex-servicemen get 3 years after their military service is deducted from their age.
Posts, vacancies and salary
About 2,536 tentative vacancies are spread across three posts: Lower Division Clerk / Junior Secretariat Assistant at Pay Level-2 (₹19,900–63,200), Data Entry Operator at Level-4 or Level-5, and Data Entry Operator Grade 'A' at Level-4 (₹25,500–81,100).
Posts are allotted on merit and the order of preference you give. Once a post is allotted, SSC does not change it, so choose your preferences carefully.
Exam pattern and negative marking
Tier-I has four parts (English, general intelligence, quantitative aptitude and general awareness) with 25 questions of 50 marks each, all in 60 minutes, and 0.50 marks are deducted for a wrong answer. Tier-II is held on one day in two sessions: maths, reasoning, English, general awareness and a computer knowledge test in the first, and a skill or typing test in the second. Wrong answers in Tier-II Sections I to III cost 1 mark.
Application fee and last date
The fee is ₹100 for General, OBC and EWS men. Women and SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates pay no fee. Online forms close on 7 October 2026 at 11 pm and the fee can be paid until 11 pm on 8 October 2026.
A correction window is open from 14 to 16 October 2026, with a charge for each correction. Tier-I and Tier-II dates will be announced later.
