Bihar Police SI 2026 Eligibility
- Indian citizen, man or woman, with a graduation degree or equivalent by 1 August 2025.
- Age on 1 August 2025, as per the matriculation certificate: 20 to 37 for unreserved men, 20 to 40 for unreserved women and for BC/EBC men and women, and 20 to 42 for SC/ST men and women.
- Bihar government servants with at least three years of regular service get 5 more years; ex-servicemen get 3 years plus their defence service, up to age 57.
- Height 165 cm for unreserved and BC men, 160 cm for EBC, SC and ST men, 155 cm for all women; women must weigh at least 48 kg. Men need a chest of 81 cm expanding to 86 cm (79 to 84 cm for SC/ST).
Bihar Police SI 2026 Selection Process
- Preliminary exam: 100 questions for 200 marks in 2 hours (English, general knowledge, Hindi, reasoning and current affairs), 2 marks per correct answer. At least 30% needed; up to 10 times the vacancies go to the mains.
- Main exam Paper 1: 200 objective questions for 200 marks in 3 hours, with 0.25 marks deducted per wrong answer.
- Main exam Paper 2: 50 marks in 1 hour: Hindi essay, English essay, English précis and Hindi-to-English translation. At least 30% needed in both papers; 3 times the vacancies go to the physical stage.

How to Apply for Bihar Police SI 2026
- Go to bpssc.bihar.gov.in, open the "Bihar Police" tab and click the link for Advt. No. 09/2026.
- Register with a valid mobile number and e-mail ID, preferably in your own name; all updates are sent to them.
- Fill the form carefully; wrong or false information cancels the application and can lead to legal action.
- Pay the ₹100 fee online by net banking, credit or debit card, or UPI. Asking your bank to reverse the payment after applying cancels the application.
- Applications were open from 9 July to 9 August 2026. Only one application per candidate is allowed.

Bihar Police SI 2026 vacancies and reservation
BPSSC has advertised 150 Sub-Inspector posts in the General Closed Cadre of Bihar Police's Special Branch. Of these, 60 are unreserved, 15 EWS, 27 EBC, 24 SC, 18 BC, 4 for BC women and 2 ST. Within each category 35% of posts are reserved for women who are native residents of Bihar, and 3 posts are set aside for grandchildren of freedom fighters.
Age limit category-wise
Age is counted on 1 August 2025 from the matriculation certificate, and the minimum is 20 for everyone. The maximum is 37 for unreserved men, 40 for unreserved women and for BC and EBC candidates, and 42 for SC and ST candidates. Bihar government employees with three years of regular service get five more years, and ex-servicemen get three years plus their defence service, up to 57.
Written exam pattern
The preliminary exam has 100 questions for 200 marks in two hours, covering English, general knowledge, Hindi, reasoning and current affairs, and you need at least 30% to be considered. The main exam has an objective Paper 1 of 200 questions for 200 marks in three hours, including 30 marks on Bihar general knowledge, with 0.25 marks lost per wrong answer. Paper 2 is a one-hour written paper of 50 marks with a Hindi essay, an English essay, an English précis and a Hindi-to-English translation.
Physical standards
After the mains, three times the number of vacancies are called to have their height, chest and weight checked. Unreserved and BC men need 165 cm and EBC, SC and ST men 160 cm, while all women need 155 cm and at least 48 kg. Men's chest must be 81 cm expanding to 86 cm, or 79 to 84 cm for SC and ST. No marks are given, but anyone below the standard is declared unsuccessful.
Merit list, fee and dates
The final merit list is prepared category-wise from the main exam marks. When marks tie, the older candidate ranks higher, then the one with the higher qualification, and then names in Hindi alphabetical order. The fee was a flat ₹100 for every candidate, and applications were accepted online from 9 July to 9 August 2026 on bpssc.bihar.gov.in.
