UP PGT 2026 Eligibility
- A postgraduate degree in the subject you apply for, from a recognised university, plus a B.Ed from an NCTE-recognised course. Some subjects add conditions: for Hindi, the graduation must also include Sanskrit.
- You must hold the qualifications by the last date of the application.
- Minimum age 21 years on 1 July 2026. There is no separate upper limit, but applications are not accepted from anyone older than 62 (the retirement age) on that date.
- Your date of birth is taken only from your High School (Class 10) certificate.
- Reservation for SC, ST, OBC and EWS applies subject-wise as per Table 01 of the notice; candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh cannot claim EWS reservation.
UP PGT 2026 Selection Process
- Written exam of 360 marks: 120 multiple-choice questions (30 general knowledge, 90 on your subject) in 2 hours on an OMR sheet; +3 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one.
- Interview of 40 marks.
- Merit list out of 400 marks. If scores tie, the written exam marks decide first, then the interview, then the postgraduate percentage, then the training qualification percentage, and finally the older candidate.

How to Apply for UP PGT 2026
- Complete the One Time Registration (OTR) on upessc.up.gov.in. OTR is compulsory before the application.
- Fill in the application in English. Category, sub-category, date of birth and gender cannot be changed after you submit, so check them carefully.
- Upload a signature on a white background (JPG, 10–200 KB, 140×110 pixels), a passport-size photo (30–300 KB) and certificates as PDF files of 50–500 KB.
- Pay the fee by credit card, debit card or net banking by 17 October 2026: ₹1,500 for General, OBC and EWS, ₹750 for SC/ST and ₹500 for PwD candidates.
- Keep three printouts of the submitted form. Two sets have to be submitted with your documents at the interview.
- If you made a mistake, correct it by 21 October 2026. Only the last submitted application is accepted if you submit more than once.

Qualification needed for a UP PGT lecturer post
For every subject you need a postgraduate degree in that subject from a recognised university and a B.Ed from an NCTE-recognised course. A few subjects have extra conditions; for Hindi, for example, your graduation must also have included Sanskrit. The qualifications must be complete by the last date of the application, and your date of birth is read only from the High School certificate.
Age limit and salary
The minimum age is 21 years on 1 July 2026. There is no separate upper age limit; instead, the retirement age for the post is 62, so anyone older than 62 on that date cannot apply. Selected lecturers are paid at Level-8, ₹47,600 to ₹1,51,100.
UP PGT 2026 exam pattern and marking
Selection is out of 400 marks. The written exam carries 360 marks and has 120 multiple-choice questions, 30 on general knowledge and 90 on your subject, to be answered in two hours on an OMR sheet with a black ball-point pen. A correct answer earns 3 marks and a wrong or multiple answer loses 1. The remaining 40 marks come from the interview, where you must bring two sets of the printed application with your documents.
